In this wonderful city, the flair of world-famous buildings and museums mixes with the lively life and the buzz of Italian voices. Although Julia lives in New York, she tries to travel to Italy once a year (exemplary!). Last year was Julia in Florence and present us your highlights here. She is originally from Vienna, but lives in New York. From there she travels the world and shares her experiences on her blog with the wonderful title "Sweet escapes”.
To get to know Florence and get a feel for the city, we strolled aimlessly through the winding streets and across the wide piazzas at the beginning of our journey. There is so much to discover and of course one of the most famous museums in the world, the Uffizi Gallery, should not be missed.
A real delicacy heaven! The city's largest indoor market offers a unique combination of groceries, small clothing stores and artisan studios. Spices, herbs, pasta, fish, fruit and vegetables - here we, as well as many locals, found everything our heart desires.
Along the oldest bridge in Florence, which leads over the Arno, there are many small shops (almost all jewelers) that are besieged by tourists.
On the other hand, a quieter and more idyllic part of the city awaits you with places like the Piazza Santo Spirito.

The world-famous cathedral with its distinctive dome is simply impressive. 460 steep and narrow steps lead you to the top of the dome, from where you have a fantastic view over the city. To go up, you have to buy a ticket online beforehand. Definitely worth it!
Not a simple pharmacy, but the oldest pharmacy in Europe, which is especially worth a visit because of its wall paintings, oil paintings and the special furnishings. Here you can buy high quality perfumes and skin care products and immerse yourself in a world of fragrances. Perfect for shopping for nice souvenirs.
To the south of the city center is the Piazza Michelangelo on a hill. From there you have a spectacular view over Florence. My tip: go here for sunset, when the city appears in light pastel colors.
A trip to Italy without being pampered by Italian cuisine is incomplete. As you can imagine, there are so many great places. I would therefore like to emphasize only the brac. A library / restaurant where you can enjoy wonderful vegetarian food surrounded by books, candles and wine.
