Sustainable Black Week - Is that even possible?

It's that time again: Black Week is upon us. But as much as many people are happy about the good deals and discounts, this time puts a lot of strain on the environment. In the following article, we explain how Black Week can be made a little more sustainable despite increased consumption.

The problem

Black Week leads to a huge overproduction, which wastes a lot of resources. Many people are seduced by the constant incentives to buy things they don't actually need or want. These products are then either stored in the shoppers' closets for the rest of their lives or sent straight back. These returns also consume many resources, produce waste and thus also leave their mark on the environment.

The solution

Sustainability is also a focus at Souleway during Black Week. It already starts with the manufacturing of the products. Souleway doesn't have immense inventories just waiting to be sold during Black Week. The products are created by hand, which on the one hand greatly increases the quality and on the other hand only allows for certain capacities. So, if you order from Souleway, you can be sure that the backpack or bag was produced only a short time before.

The question of why

At first, it may sound like a contradiction for a sustainable company like Souleway to participate in such a big sale promotion. But at the end of the day, our sustainability is an overall philosophical concept, something we apply to our business. We participate in Black Week because we rely on the sales. But our products remain sustainable, and for us as a young company, it's critical to grow. On Souleway's Instagram Channel, founders Flemming and Hagen personally explain in a short video why Black Week is important to us as a company and how we can still make it more sustainable.

How to: Black Week

Black Week isn't all bad. Every purchase can support a company that means well and really wants to make a difference in the world. Therefore, the rule is: buy from companies that make sustainable or organic products. This way, young brands in particular can grow and continue to push the sustainability concept. In addition, conscious purchasing decisions can avoid returns, which then do not burden the environment.

Together, you can make Black Week a little more sustainable - you just have to know how.
