The larger of the two New Zealand islands has a spectacular landscape and is therefore one of the favorite travel destinations of the two travel bloggers Romeo and Kathi. One natural highlight chases the next: fjords, glaciers, mountains and much, much more. The two introduce you to some of their highlights.
We started our journey in Christchurch. From there, Castle Hill is the perfect day trip (1.5h drive). The bizarre limestone rock formations are reminiscent of a castle, hence the name. There were fascinating views that we could look at and enjoy for hours.

Almost exactly in the center of the island, between Christchurch and Queenstown, is the place Tekapo on the lake of the same name. Turquoise blue water in a barren landscape with a majestic mountain backdrop - breathtaking! Incidentally, the best view of the lake is from the Mount John Observatory.
The Scottish city of Dunedin is the perfect starting point from which to explore the scenic Otago Peninsula. Above all, the city itself has a great flair and an imposing railway station. Tip: the nearby Tunnel Beach with its cliffs and rugged coast.
The unspoiled and secluded region of Catlins begins about an hour south of Dunedin. The focus here is on nature: rough climate, strong waves, rugged coastal landscape and lots of seals and penguins. The lighthouse at Nugget Point is a great photo spot!
