The Corona time has affected us all and in many cases it continues to do so. In Germany, the Federal Government has now decided to temporarily reduce VAT from 19% to 16% by the end of the year. Above all, this should have the effect of lowering prices slightly, thus consuming the population more and thus getting the economy rolling better.
For us, as a small company, lowering our prices would involve a great deal of manual effort, which is why we have decided not to reflect the 3 percentage points saved in lower prices, but to donate this money. We have selected two organisations between which we would like to split the amount saved and whose concerns are close to our hearts. Doctors Without Borders is particularly committed to people affected by Corona during this time, and Drip by Drip is fighting the water problem in the textile industry. In the following we present both a little more precisely.
Doctors Without Borders
The number of corona infections is still rising exponentially in most countries. Clinics are overburdened and health systems are becoming increasingly overwhelmed. Doctors Without Borders therefore supports people worldwide in the fight against coronavirus. In concrete terms, this means, among other things, the operation of mobile clinics for the homeless and migrants in Europe, as well as the establishment of control centres, hand-washing stations and waiting areas for suspected cases in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In addition, Doctors Without Borders supports health education worldwide.
From fiber cultivation to raw material processing to dyeing and equipping, the manufacturing process of a garment is highly dependent on water. The textile industry, considered to be one of the most polluting industries, is particularly responsible for the severe water pollution and scarcity of water in today's world. In addition, by washing and disposing of worn clothing, the water circuits are filled with additional chemicals and microfibers.
Drip by Drip is the first NGO in the world to specialize in the water problem of the textile industry. The NGO actively researches, informs and develops solutions for all stakeholders in the cycle of a garment.
